Changes of Corneal Biomechanical Properties upon Exclusive Ytt-/Sr-90 Irradiation of Pterygium

Background: It is known that pterygia above a certain size cause astigmatism and other aberrations of the human cornea thus impair quality vision. Exclusive Sr-/Ytt-90 beta irradiation highly effective treatment for primary pterygia. The aim this retrospective study to determine extent which higher order corneal are affected by treatment. Methods: Evaluation topographies wavefront aberration data 20 patients generated before at different points in time first year after irradiation. Additionally, pterygium was measured. Results: showed significant increase coma triple leaf with horizontal length 2 mm more. also found greater than significantly induces astigmatism. Both phenomena reduce visual quality. In none could recurrence be detected Conclusions: If less mm, early exclusive Sr/Ytt-90 can recommended. more excision 6 months discussed.
